• Hey babe, you sing like Janis Joplin!
    Who the hell is she?

This kind of monologue happened at the very beginning of history of the band Janis Joplin Revival. In 1993 Tana Mana was twenty and she met her future promo and booking manager Susan during English course…Couple months later they went on a journey to United States where Tana premierely listened to Janis Joplin`s album "PEARL". After first listening, Tana did not like Joplin`s hoarse voice so much, especially she couldn`t imagine herself to produce such a roar and scream of that blues devil. However, you know how it goes, shortly Tana was impressed how that hippies charlatan express herself.

During that period Tana just for her pleasure sang with accoustic guitar cover versions of 4 Non Blondes, Bon Jovi, Skidrow, Metallica..etc.,and prepared new project of the female group "Sun Beach", where she was a frontman. Enough of smoke, alcohol, loud music and singing lessons in rock school moved her vocal range to a dirty wailing mood, exactly like a real Janis. Her, together with a bass player Andrew Tuma , who accompanied her on accouctic guitar in that time, started to play cover versions of Janis Joplin and other musicians in private parties. Sometimes they concerted with an outstanding hammond player and multi-insrumentalist John Korinek. In 1996 they started to play together with her colleague from Sun Beach a guitar player Cathren Rysava and drummer Ivan Pelisek from the band Abraxas.

First show of all four was held in the courtyard of a romantic tea restaurant in Cesky Krumlov. An extreme talent of the singer was proved by very possitive applause during the performance. Since that time, the group regularly tour in clubs and festivals in The Czech Republic. Among their fans you can find generation of the 60`s as well as new flower power children who are just fifteen. The home clubs are mainly Prague Malostranska Beseda and Rock Café, where is the band once in a while supported by brass band or a percussion player.

Czech Joplin could have been seen in Holland, Germany, Italy, Poland and Slovakia. Tana says, that revival will always remain to be just revival, and understands to singing those songs as a great opportunity how to get closer to the hearts of the crowd. Her dream is to produce own music and her top hero for the moment is Anastacia. For the moment she is looking for musicians with a same spirit and taps the piano at home. Let`s hope that we hear a lot about her in the future.
